How To Increase Longevity

I read an interview with Michael Bloomberg where he brags about increasing the longevity of New Yorkers. I don't have the exact quote, but it was a self-promoting piece implying that his anti-smoking laws and green spaces improved the health of New Yorkers.

Bullshit!

What improved the health of New Yorkers was throwing out the poor and making this a city for rich people. Rich people live longer than poor people... by a lot. These statistics (from The Nation about Baltimore) show just how much.

How Rich People Spend Their Money... Lesson Two

So, is there something the matter with a little home delivery? Is this any different than calling for Dominos during the Superbowl?

What comes around...

Ah the lower East Side of NYC. Now a fashionable district for Japanese NYU students. Before that, punkrock heaven. Before that, hippy heaven. Before that, Puerto Rican slums. Before that, Jewish and other Eastern European slums... where new immigrants came to work their way out of the slums. Often they joined unions to help each other pull themselves out of the LES muck. They lived in tenements... in squalid conditions.

So, someone decides to make a tenement museum. A testimony to these hard-working, usually radical labor organizers and members. And what happens? Of course, it's capitalism!

Bloomberg Gives... but not to you and me

So Mayor Bloomberg and his 17 BILLION dollars wants to close schools and "tighten the fiscal belt" in New York, when he has enough money to take care of the problem himself. Well, what is he doing with all that money anyway? Why.... investing it... IN OTHER CITIES!! Don't you just love the guy?

NY Parking, You Gotta Be An Asshole to Afford It!

Whew!! Just in case Romney or Bloomberg need a place to park... It's good to know our officials can take care of themselves!

Only in New York

Yeah, in New York they have no respect for cuisines, or purity, or tradition. ANYTHING is okay. That's bad... and that's good. In any case, it's weird! This is from my local Korean deli:

Kimchi, Philadelphia cheese steak, in a wrap. Yeah!

Slipping from Number One

Oh no! New York City is no longer number one. We've slipped down to NUMBER 5. It's sad!

Here's the story in all it's dirty detail:

Once in a Blue Moon

There've been very few times during the last 10 or so years that I thought there was anything of value in New York. The World Trade Center attacks made New York part of America. (We used to consider it a different country. They did too.) Guiliani brought in Starbucks, and the other horrible chains. The city became too expensive and way too safe. But every now and then I see something and think YES! NEW YORK... YES!
