PC in 1990 by Mike Royko
Just found this. I cut it out in 1990... it was an omen of things to come.
In case you don't know Mike Royko... the great Chicago journalist... find out. He was a God among newspaper men. He stopped writing when he died. That's a shame.

It's Only A Survey... It's only a Survey
So, let me see if I've got this right. First you dismiss an ad on Goggle because you don't like it, and don't want to buy from that company Then Google pops up a "survey" so you can tell 'em why you didn't like it. Then they redo the ad to market to you better. Then they show you an ad for the same company... in a more YOU-friendly version. Right?

You Could Write about this in 1980!
Yeah the article is prejudiced, narrow-minded, conservative, etc... but at least they were writing about it! In TIME MAGAZINE no less. I doubt you could get away with it in 2014! There are so many taboos, that this is far from being the last.
I know phrases like "as in any propaganda campaign," and "an ingenuous editorial denying the article was advocating anything" are about as journalisticly impartial as the New York Post, but still, they wrote about it.

Acting Funny? Take a Pill!
This is from a great book called Blaming The Brain This page shows how bigPharm markets the same pill, sometimes under different names, as a treatment for a variety of "mental illnesses" including depression and... smoking. (I shit you not.) It also shows the proof that these "illnesses" are chemical based, is actually, not proof, but a money saving move by the drug companies.
