Yeah, in New York they have no respect for cuisines, or purity, or tradition. ANYTHING is okay. That's bad... and that's good. In any case, it's weird! This is from my local Korean deli:
Kimchi, Philadelphia cheese steak, in a wrap. Yeah!

How the 1% spend their money
Ever wonder how the ONE PERCENT spend their money? I mean, if you've got a BILLION dollars, what are you gonna do with TWO BILLION dollars. Well, while Americans starve, and the Republicans and Democrats find ways to "trim the fat" from the Federal budget aiding poor people... lets see what those RICH GUYS are buying with the money they don't want to pay in taxes:
This from a liquor store catalog. In case you can't read it, that's $18,600 for a single bottle of whiskey.:

Why Bother Voting, They'll Do It For You
With the Republicans in several states taking the vote away from the poor by bringing back the Poll Tax. (They do it by requiring Photo ID to vote. The only acceptable ID is state issued--- you guessed it-- you have to pay for it!) There are plenty of new ways to steal elections. To be fair, it's not only the Republicans who do the stealing... only MOSTLY the Republicans.

I saw this in a catalog... I think it was HEARTLAND products. In case you were worried about getting picked up for packin' heat on the streets of DesMoine, just buy a license! Now that I've got a mail order license to carry a gun, can anyone recommend a place to buy a license to KILL?

And the Teabaggers say Corporations pay too much in taxes
In the 50s, 33% of the US taxes were paid by corporations. This year, it was 9%. Too much for some people. And check this out. amNewYork paper featured this article about how corporations pay their CEOs more than they pay in taxes!! Only in America!

Hidden Agenda? Bargain Books not such a bargain...
I hate Obama as much as the next guy. He's weak, a corporate hack, war-lover, blah blah blah. But there's general annoyance and then there's weird paranoia. This is the "politics" section of a book catalog from
Edward R. Hamilton, Bookseller in Connecticut released this list as part of his BARGAIN BOOKS sale.

Hate Government Use Government
The Tea Baggers say they hate the government and want to take money out of the pockets of the poor and put it into the pockets of the rich. But wait? They don't quite look in the mirror for those who get government funds.

Bad Christians, Good Muslims dept:
The same issue of The Smithsonian that talks about the success of Finnish Schools (big government, no religion, no private schools), talks about the changes taking place within Islam. While Christian fundamentalists are getting stronger-- and uglier, Muslims are getting LESS fundamental, and more accepting. Yeah! It's about time this stuff was written about! The problem is that it's too good, too truthful, for America. I bet the Smithsonian will be disciplined HARD in the near future.

Let's Finnish With This Christian/Tea Party Propaganda
Throughout the US, Christian Tea Partyists are trying to dismantle the American Public Schools. Pushing for government funding for religious schools (obviously a violation of the Constitution), they say "competition" will improve the schools. Add to that, a lot of teaching to the test, and we'll improve, they say. Well, they're wrong.
A great article in THE SMITHSONIAN magazine shows the case of Finland, and how a country recently inundated with immigrants can have an education system that actually TEACHES. No private school. No standardized tests. Just real learning.

Why help old people... or the sick when you can buy wine?
Greed is in again. The rich don't want to pay more taxes than the poor. Corporations don't want to pay ANY taxes. Republicans call for the gutting of Medicare and Medicaid... puts more in their pocket. Now, some bankers and hedge fund managers are being indicted. Think they'll be convicted? Yeah, right. Not if they shell out for the wine!

Mental Illness?
I'm not sure I get this "disfunction" stuff. Not that I'm a fan of mental illness. But why do they (Newsweek) make it look sick to want to disassemble your own body, when those who want to disassemble OTHER people's bodies (the military, Blackwater, the Pentagon, "our boys") are heros?

Sometimes I order my vitamins from a mail order company called PURITAN'S PRIDE. They often have a special where they sell three bottles for the price of one. How can they do that? By only filling the bottles a third of the way!! After this picture-- that shows the contents of ONE BOTTLE-- I combined all three into one.

Intermarriage Problem? Prohibit it!
Ever since I was studying for my Bar Mitzvah, I remember sermons against Intermarriage. "It'll be the end of the Jews." "It's a sin." and more. The Israelis have found the answer: PROHIBIT IT!
Not that they aren't making strides. They've already entered the 18th century by allowing Civil Marriages... but only if both sides are atheist. Then it's not intermarriage, is it?

Once in a Blue Moon
There've been very few times during the last 10 or so years that I thought there was anything of value in New York. The World Trade Center attacks made New York part of America. (We used to consider it a different country. They did too.) Guiliani brought in Starbucks, and the other horrible chains. The city became too expensive and way too safe. But every now and then I see something and think YES! NEW YORK... YES!
