Only in New York

Yeah, in New York they have no respect for cuisines, or purity, or tradition. ANYTHING is okay. That's bad... and that's good. In any case, it's weird! This is from my local Korean deli:

Kimchi, Philadelphia cheese steak, in a wrap. Yeah!

How the 1% spend their money

Ever wonder how the ONE PERCENT spend their money? I mean, if you've got a BILLION dollars, what are you gonna do with TWO BILLION dollars. Well, while Americans starve, and the Republicans and Democrats find ways to "trim the fat" from the Federal budget aiding poor people... lets see what those RICH GUYS are buying with the money they don't want to pay in taxes:

This from a liquor store catalog. In case you can't read it, that's $18,600 for a single bottle of whiskey.:

Why Bother Voting, They'll Do It For You

With the Republicans in several states taking the vote away from the poor by bringing back the Poll Tax. (They do it by requiring Photo ID to vote. The only acceptable ID is state issued--- you guessed it-- you have to pay for it!) There are plenty of new ways to steal elections. To be fair, it's not only the Republicans who do the stealing... only MOSTLY the Republicans.

Is My Phone Following Me?

So it turns out not only does everything you do on the internet get recorded, stored and sold. Everything you do in REAL LIFE is recorded, stored and sold. What a surprise?

Where'd Ya Get Yer License, Bud?

I saw this in a catalog... I think it was HEARTLAND products. In case you were worried about getting picked up for packin' heat on the streets of DesMoine, just buy a license! Now that I've got a mail order license to carry a gun, can anyone recommend a place to buy a license to KILL?

Giving Good Head

This is from PC World... though it sounds like one of those Snopes things or whatever that TV debunking show is. Strengthen your TV reception, OR your car key fob. I wonder what it does to your brian.

And the Teabaggers say Corporations pay too much in taxes

In the 50s, 33% of the US taxes were paid by corporations. This year, it was 9%. Too much for some people. And check this out. amNewYork paper featured this article about how corporations pay their CEOs more than they pay in taxes!! Only in America!

Hidden Agenda? Bargain Books not such a bargain...

I hate Obama as much as the next guy. He's weak, a corporate hack, war-lover, blah blah blah. But there's general annoyance and then there's weird paranoia. This is the "politics" section of a book catalog from

Edward R. Hamilton, Bookseller in Connecticut released this list as part of his BARGAIN BOOKS sale.

"Rewrite the constitution," "radical left policies,""liberal mobs" huh? How do you spell a-g-e-n-d-a?

Credit Where Its Due (NY Post)

I hate their politics, but you've got to give Murdoch's NY Post credit. They know what's important in a story!

From my junkmail

If it's got a bank return address on it, it goes right into the shredder. But stuff from magazines, I at least open. This is from FREE INQUIRY, an included note from Richard Dawkins. Here's a great excerpt about religion.

Hate Government Use Government

The Tea Baggers say they hate the government and want to take money out of the pockets of the poor and put it into the pockets of the rich. But wait? They don't quite look in the mirror for those who get government funds.

Bad Christians, Good Muslims dept:

The same issue of The Smithsonian that talks about the success of Finnish Schools (big government, no religion, no private schools), talks about the changes taking place within Islam. While Christian fundamentalists  are getting stronger-- and uglier, Muslims are getting LESS fundamental, and more accepting. Yeah! It's about time this stuff was written about! The problem is that it's too good, too truthful, for America. I bet the Smithsonian will be disciplined HARD in the near future.

Let's Finnish With This Christian/Tea Party Propaganda

Throughout the US, Christian Tea Partyists are trying to dismantle the American Public Schools. Pushing for government funding for religious schools (obviously a violation of the Constitution), they say "competition" will improve the schools. Add to that, a lot of teaching to the test, and we'll improve, they say. Well, they're wrong.

A great article in THE SMITHSONIAN magazine shows the case of Finland, and how a country recently inundated with immigrants can have an education system that actually TEACHES. No private school. No standardized tests. Just real learning.

Why help old people... or the sick when you can buy wine?

Greed is in again. The rich don't want to pay more taxes than the poor. Corporations don't want to pay ANY taxes. Republicans call for the gutting of Medicare and Medicaid... puts more in their pocket. Now, some bankers and hedge fund managers are being indicted. Think they'll be convicted? Yeah, right. Not if they shell out for the wine!

Mental Illness?

I'm not sure I get this "disfunction" stuff. Not that I'm a fan of mental illness. But why do they (Newsweek) make it look sick to want to disassemble your own body, when those who want to disassemble OTHER people's bodies (the military, Blackwater, the Pentagon, "our boys") are heros?

Why I Love Language Reason # 943

This snippet was from the PROGRESSIVE magazine. One of the few I actually pay for a subscription to. It quotes Harper's Magazine:

Why It's Hopeless Reason #843

I guess everything goes back to PT Barnum's "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people." I should be used to it by now, but sometimes it still amazes me.

"the TRYX can turn, twist, hang and stand to get shots you'd never believe from angles you never thought possible.:

Keep your eyes peeled on for the latest TRYX!

Slipping from Number One

Oh no! New York City is no longer number one. We've slipped down to NUMBER 5. It's sad!

Here's the story in all it's dirty detail:

Getting It Right on Libya

Alexander Cockburn is one of the few journalists who is as spot on correct in his analysis as I am. This is from THE NATION and it's PERFECT about what's really going on in Libya.

Jew? No bail!

I found this among my papers from the American Council for Judaism. I agree with these guys about half the time, but they always find interesting stuff. Though this is from 2009, I still find it amazing. Someone was denied bail because he was a Jew!! Excuses be damned, just amazing.

I just found this...

Gong through my cabinets, here's a clipping from 1980. Even 30 years ago I had the good taste to realize what was scientifically important! Clip I did, so now we can enjoy it!

That Crackpot was Right

Oh no!

I published a few pages from a crackpot nutritionist who said that Nicotine, and Trans-Fat were good for you. Funny, huh? Now comes this report from "reputable researchers" (oxymoron?) who say low levels of Trans-Fat may cause prostate cancer!! AND so can eating too much fish.

What's a hypochondriac to do?

Healthcare: Why I Hate The U.S. Reason 873

I left a Facebook discussion on Single Payer healthcare when it reached the Godwin's Law point. That's where I always pull out. (TWSS).

In the meantime, I got a great info sheet from PUBLIC CITIZEN that explains things. If you can't see the whole thing, click on it for a complete view.

Ah, maybe I was born 62 years too late

Just saw this in the Smithsonian magazine. Good ole 19th century WHO CARES ABOUT GENDER? What's happened since then? How did the Christians get EVEN WORSE??? (It is the Christians, isn't it?)

And even more pride

This label is from a can of Star Snacks Peanuts. Check out the MADE WITH PRIDE!

And the Puritans Are Proud?

Sometimes I order my vitamins  from a mail order company called PURITAN'S PRIDE. They often have a special where they sell three bottles for the price of one. How can they do that? By only filling the bottles a third of the way!! After this picture-- that shows the contents of ONE BOTTLE-- I combined all three into one.

Spare Change?

Jim Hightower in his monthly newsletter has laid out a chart of the (mainly Republican) corporate contributors. A few surprises-- especially among the Democrats, but generally you know. Now let your shopping do the politics!

Intermarriage Problem? Prohibit it!

Ever since I was studying for my Bar Mitzvah, I remember sermons against Intermarriage. "It'll be the end of the Jews." "It's a sin." and more. The Israelis have found the answer: PROHIBIT IT!

Not that they aren't making strides. They've already entered the 18th century by allowing Civil Marriages... but only if both sides are atheist. Then it's not intermarriage, is it?

High Fructose Corn Foxes?

The Smithsonian magazine reports that foxes in urban areas seem to be getting used to (high fructose) corn syrup. Are we gonna see them keeling over from heart failure?

Once in a Blue Moon

There've been very few times during the last 10 or so years that I thought there was anything of value in New York. The World Trade Center attacks made New York part of America. (We used to consider it a different country. They did too.) Guiliani brought in Starbucks, and the other horrible chains. The city became too expensive and way too safe. But every now and then I see something and think YES! NEW YORK... YES!

It's a Free Country... Isn't It?

One out of every 100 Americans is in jail. One out of 39 are in jail, paroled or somehow in the criminal system. More African (Americans) are in jail than were slaves before the Civil War. And why does al qaeda hate us? They're jealous of our freedom!

Want to Fly Cheap?

Sounds like good advice, fly on scary days. But look at the illustration. The end figure is clearly Halloween, the middle guy may be a Friday the 13ther but look at the guy at the back of the line? Is he supposed to represent September 11? Pretty bad taste, I'd say!
